Presentation of Odense Pancreas Center (OPAC)

Pancreas is a sophisticated gland involved in numerous physiological mechanisms which are essential for the function of the gastrointestinal tract and the glucose metabolism. Therefore, both hereditary and acquired diseases of the pancreas will have significant impact on the patients’ quality of life as well as on their prognosis. Due to the wide spectrum of complex and often serious pancreatic diseases (PD), many different specialities are involved in PD diagnosis, treatment and research.

Odense Pancreas Center (OPAC) aims to merge all clinical and non-clinical specialities dealing with PD, and thereby addressing all PD research and clinical problems in a true multi-disciplinary environment.

Odense Pancreas Center (OPAC) participants illustrates the major areas of interest, but the closer collaboration within OPAC is aiming at the development of alternative research areas as well. At the same time, OPAC will use their infrastructure and multi-disciplinary concept to narrow the gap between basic research and clinical implementation of personalized medicine.

One of many OPAC goals is to include all patients with pancreatic diseases in scientific protocols
